Who I am, What I do

I'm a Chicago-based writer and editor with a focus on art, design, and culture. I’ve been capturing the essence of the city and those who call it home for the better part of a decade. I have a persistent urge to tell a story and I don’t confine myself to words—I also curate art exhibitions. I’m originally from Athens, Greece.

Hi, this is Vasia Rigou!

Writer, Editor & Curator

This was then:

I received a bachelor’s in English Literature, in my native Athens, Greece; a master’s in Media, in Nottingham, UK; and studied foreign languages—English, German, and Spanish at the University of Salamanca, Spain. In 2013, I moved to the U.S. to study Arts Journalism at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), where I was awarded the New Artist Society Merit Scholarship.

This is now:

I currently serve as Editor at Newcity, Chicago’s leading culture publication, as Writer and Copy Editor at the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) HQ, and regularly contribute to the Chicago Reader, Artnet News, and international architecture and design magazines OnOffice and ICON. In my curatorial practice, I explore identity, intimacy, and belonging.

Who I am:

I grew up to appreciate art after years of carefully planned, culture-filled travel itineraries and museum-hopping around Europe with my family. Now, I get to add to our collective memories by telling those stories.

What should you know about my past, present and upcoming exhibitions? It all begins with an idea. Find out all about my creative projects.

What else is there:

When I’m not writing about art or looking at art—wine in hand—you’ll find me making lists for just about everything, drinking copious amounts of coffee, and taking cross-country road trips whenever I get the chance. If I’m nowhere to be found, I’m likely snuggled up with Goose, my Bernese mountain dog who’s pretty much a baby bear.

The bottom line?

The way you share your story with the world makes all the difference.
